Atlantic Gateway Mission to India
During the week of February 18 to 22, the Hon. Peter MacKay, Minister for National Defense and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency led the Atlantic Gateway Mission to India. The mission business delegation included key representatives from the private sector including ports, airports, rail, trucking and logistics firms. A senior minister and officials from each Atlantic province was also included in the delegation.
The mission objectives - to promote the Atlantic Gateway and gain an understanding of the business opportunities with India - were achieved through a number of meetings and events with business leaders in India, including two key forums held in New Delhi and Mumbai. Both of these forums provided the opportunity for the private sector delegates to promote the competitive advantage of the Atlantic Gateway as a trade route into North America to Indian businesses.
A detailed report on the Atlantic Gateway Mission to India is being finalized and will be distributed shortly.
Analytical Work
Chair of Working Committee: Jacques Rochon (Transport Canada)

As presented at the January 23 stakeholder consultation in Halifax, the Atlantic Gateway Analytical Working Group (AGAWG) will conduct various studies in order to assess the Atlantic Gateway multimodal transportation system (road, rail, marine, air). The assessment will include infrastructure capacity, performance, current and future freight and passenger flows, issues and challenges (bottlenecks) and opportunities to improve efficiency with respect to the movement of international goods. These studies will help inform key infrastructure investment decisions.
These studies focus on the various aspects of the multimodal system and will be carried out by consultants during the next several months. The associated deliverables will require consultations with several stakeholders in order to obtain infrastructure profiles, freight statistics, and other relevant information. Members of the AGAWG plan to visit a short list of primary stakeholders in the Atlantic Region in order to discuss the group's workplan and these studies in more detail. These visits are proposed for the coming months and will be followed by the consultants' own work and stakeholder consultations.
In addition to the consultations that will take place with the AGAWG members and the consultants, other stakeholders will be given the opportunity to provide their input to the Atlantic Gateway initiative by way of briefs.
